For ages 16-Adult. This is a beginner friendly workshop that will teach the basics of sculpture using ceramic clay. Students will learn how to make support structures as well as the fundamentals of sculpting something out of clay using different techniques and tools. Class one will focus on the beginning process of sculpture work. We will learn to build a wire support structure and will create a basic sculpture together to learn the techniques and skills needed to proceed onto larger sculptures. Students may then choose a subject matter for their next project. Classes two through four will be used for students to complete their projects. Students may choose to make multiple smaller sculptures or use their class time to continually work on a larger piece. There is plenty of room for creative freedom in this workshop. Some examples of what can be created in this class are portrait sculptures, animal sculptures, or even abstract art. If you are unsure of what you want to create in this workshop, we will be discussing various options for you to explore during our first class. Class five will be reserved for sanding and glazing our ceramic sculptures. Students will leave their projects at the studio to be fired. Please allow up to two weeks for us to fire all of your sculptures. We will contact students once their work is ready for pick up. All supplies, clay, tools, materials, and firing services are included in this workshop. Students will need to provide their own photo references for their subject matter.
