This course is designed for new potters who want to learn how to throw pottery on a pottery wheel. Over the course of four weeks we will cover the basics of wheel throwing and will help students develop their skills as they learn to make a variety of different ceramic items. Some of the skills students will learn are centering clay, pulling walls, shaping cylinders, handle making and using a variety of different tools to manipulate the clay. We will make different items such as mugs, bowls, plates, and vases. Each class will be three hours and will consist of a lesson, demonstration and self work time. Classes 1-3 will will be used to create our ceramic pieces and class 4 will be reserved for sanding and glazing all of your work. All student pottery will be left at the studio and will be available for pick up once they have been fired. Please allow roughly two weeks after the end of the course for us to get everything fired. All supplies, materials, tools, glazes, and firing services will be included.
